Julian Peterson, Baritone Sax

Julian is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition at Arizona State University. He holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Music degree from Arizona State University.

A formidable composer, he has created dozens of compositions and arrangements for electronic media and acoustic instruments. His awards and accolades include:

  • 2003 Gold Medal Winner, Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, South Bend, IN

  • First Place, Contemporary Music Society Chamber Music Competition, Tempe, AZ
  • Named Outstanding Undergraduate Performance Student, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ
  • 2000 First Place, Chamber Music Monterey Bay International Chamber Music Competition, Monterey Bay, CA

In 2004 and 2005, while with the Helios Saxophone Quartet, he was an Artist in Residence at Brevard College, in Brevard, NC.

An active educator, Julian has been an adjunct instructor at the New College of Florida, in Sarasota, FL and Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, AZ.

In addition to the Phoenix Horns, Julian also performs currently with the funk/R&B band Home Jones. In his spare time, Julian makes a perfectly acceptable home brew – but admittedly leans toward the hoppy side of flavor profiles.
